New Bishop!

Civic dignataries and members of the clergy welcomed the first Area Bishop of Leeds and Diocesan Bishop of West Yorkshire and the Dales, The Rt. Revd Nick Baines. Bishop Baines is currently Diocesan Bishop of Bradford. “Let’s walk this new journey together as we forge new friendships, cross old boundaries, and shape a vision for this new Diocese,” he said. “I am excited by what lies ahead for us.” On 20th April, 2014, the Diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales will be created. The new diocese will be one of the most populous in the Church of England, bringing together the three cities of Bradford, Leeds and Wakefield and key towns such as Huddersfield and Harrogate. On Pentecost Sunday, 8th June, 2014, the Inauguration and Confirmation of Election of the Diocesan Bishop for the new diocese will take place at 4pm in York Minster.
Please pray for the new Bishop and Diocese using the following prayer:
Loving God, pour upon us, we pray Your Holy Spirit and prepare us for the new Diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales. We pray for our new bishop and pray You will lead and encourage us, bind us together in love and faith and open our hearts and minds to new possibilities of welcome, witness and mission. In Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.
