|Welcome to the website of St. Matthew’s Leyburn with St. John the Evangelist, Bellerby.
We are delighted to share with you some of the events and services that are taking place during the coming year and also to give you a flavour of the fun and fellowship we enjoy together as part of God’s family here.
We aim to be church communities that reflect the grace and generosity of the God who so loved this world that he gave himself entirely for it in Jesus Christ. We believe in a God who walks alongside us throughout our lives, taking joy in our joys and sharing in our sorrows; indeed, this is something we aim to reflect not only through our worship but in all our activities together. We enjoy worshipping God on a Sunday but our life as a church is not restricted to that one morning per week. We have a regular programme of other events which we hope will offer hospitality, friendship and support within the wider community.
Over the past few months we have enjoyed a whole variety of events that have reminded us of God’s love and especially of that supreme act of generosity in sacrificing himself in order that we might have life and live it to the full. At the same time, we have been rediscovering the truth of those beautiful words in the Old Testament: “The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.” (Zephaniah 3:17). It is incredibly freeing to know that whatever we may have done with our lives, God loves us to that degree!
Looking through the gallery of photographs, you will see some of the many events that recently we’ve enjoyed together. They have been much appreciated so are certain to be repeated at some later date. In the meantime, there is another rich programme of events that we aim to be fun, joyful and full of meaning.
We are very ecumenical and share fellowship regularly with our brothers and sisters from the Methodist Church and also share readily in the activities organised by the other Wensleydale Churches. We are always willing to try new approaches and to move where we feel God’s Spirit is calling us. At the heart of all we do and our chief aim together is to make the love of Christ known. We would be thrilled if you came and joined us and we can assure you of a warm welcome when you do.
